The tourists visiting Sri Lanka, there are a number of tour itineraries are available. The details of one of these trips are being described below.
Hill Country Tour covers Kandy, Nuwara Eliya.
The first day of this tour would take tourists around the city of Colombo in the afternoon. The Fort which is located in the city and contains different colonial remnants mainly of the British period could be seen. Nearby, Pettah, which is the busiest and most traditional bazaar of Colombo, is also visited. Cinnamon Garden, which is the most prestigious residential area of the city, is also visited on this Sri Lanka Tour Package.
The next day, after breakfast, the journey starts. At the start, it is a drive on a busy highway along the coast past paddy fields, palm groves, and coconut plantations. At a place called Pinnewela, a visit is made to an elephant orphanage that contains about seventy elephants. These elephants were brought from different parts of the country that were found sick and abandoned by their herd. After this stop, the road begins to ascend. A stop would be made at a rubber factory where the tourists would be shown how latex which is collected from the rubber trees is treated and converted into raw rubber.
Thereafter, a stoppage would be made at a spice garden. After this stop, the tourists would be able to enjoy the scenic beauty and panoramic view of central highlands with all its hills and mountains finally reaching Kandy which is situated at 500 M height. At the center of the town, there is a small artificial lake and the palace of the last Singhalese king. The place is now a temple and the holiest shrine in Sri Lanka where the tooth relic of Lord Buddha is stored.
The next day, the tour would leave for Peradeniya to visit the world-famous Botanical Garden. The park was established in 1371 under the reign of King Vikrama Bahu III.
The third day of tour would take it to Nuwara Eliya which is located at 1500 M. The whole country around this place is full of tea gardens. A trip in a train through these tea gardens would be arranged to enjoy the scenic beauty of waterfalls, mountain creeks, etc.
The next day, the tourist would be visiting Horton Plains, a plateau amongst the hilly country. After this visit, the tourists would start the journey to reach Colombo, where the tour would end.
